BELLEVUE, Wash. –
4G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies, today commends Larry Strickling, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator, at the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the NTIA team for their great efforts and analysis in providing the report on freeing government spectrum for licensed commercial use.
Chris Pearson, President of 4G Americas stated, “Harmonized spectrum is the lifeblood of the wireless industry and the key ingredient to spur innovation, investment and jobs.” Both the President’s Spectrum Initiative and the National Broadband Plan recognized that for U.S. to maintain its lead in innovation and grow high-tech jobs, the commercial sector must have more spectrum for broadband. They identified the need for 300 MHz of spectrum in five years and 500 MHz in ten years to meet the requirements of industry. Pearson added, “There is a lot of hard work and important decisions that lie ahead of the U.S. by the White House, FCC and NTIA in enabling the United States to continue its technology leadership role in mobile broadband deployments, services and applications.”
