Two essentials for a healthy wireless technology environment include well-developed technology standards and a fair market regulatory environment with carefully allocated spectrum resources. 4G Americas supports regulatory and standards-based environments in the Americas that stimulate the growth of advanced wireless services via the region's most extensive wireless technologies: GSM, UMTS-HSPA and LTE. By remaining engaged with national and international regulatory agencies, standards development organizations, industry associations and technology teams, 4G Americas highlights issues critical to the development of new services. 4G Americas develops and presents contributions, position papers and informational documents to these government officials and organizations to assure a full understanding of the implications of their proposals and agenda items under consideration.
As a Market Representation Partner for the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), 4G Americas promotes the standards development work of this global organization, often weighing in on the importance of various techniques appropriate for the successful adoption and deployment of the 3GPP family technology in the Americas region. The success of the 3GPP family of technologies is incumbent upon the work of the contributors to this organization.
4G Americas is fully committed to market-based wireless regulatory policies with the notion that the successful adoption, development, deployment and operation of advanced wireless communications systems are based firmly on the principle of a light regulatory approach with a public-private partnership exercised through mutual respect, consultation and constant dialogue.
Advocacy
4G Americas serves an advocacy role for the advancement of wireless services. Advancing global wireless services requires effective representation and constructive dialogue between national regulatory agencies and also within the framework of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States where 4G Americas participates as an associate member. Even though 4G Americas is an organization incorporated in the United States, the extensive international resources and worldwide experience of its members and staff enable it to be both productive and convincing. The advocacy program for 4G Americas includes the following elements:
